Over time, we have slowly tried to weed out as many chemicals from our home as possible. We continue to make changes and try to purchase products derived from more natural ingredients, that are cruelty free, and produced with eco-friendly and sustainable manufacturing. Sometimes we will make products ourselves, such as cleaners or soaps, but we also look for things to purchase as needed so I will be featuring some of our favorite products in various blog posts. These are not sponsored posts, just products we have discovered, love, and use in our home.
Today, I want to talk about deodorant. I guess you never really stop and think about it, but if you look at the ingredient list in your deodorant, it's probably full of tons of chemicals and things you can't even pronounce! I've learned to avoid those types of ingredients in the food I put in my body, but shouldn't I also avoid those types of ingredients in products I'm putting on my body? While making this change in thought process, I tried to search for a natural & cruelty free deodorant. There are various products out there and many with mixed reviews. The one deodorant that I have found and love is Schmidt's brand. These deodorant sticks are free of aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens, and phthalates. They also have no artificial fragrance and are only "scented" with essential oils. All of the scents are also gender neutral! I have tried both the lavender & sage and charcoal & magnesium scents and both are amazing! I would say it took a few days for my body to adjust to the change and I maybe sweat a little bit more during that time but since then, they work great!
Here is the ingredient list for the lavender & sage stick so you have a general idea of what is in their deodorants (they list both the scientific and common name for each ingredient):
Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil Euphorbia Cerifera (candelilla) Wax Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter) Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil) Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil Tocopherol (vitamin E; sunflower-derived)
Definitely a lot better than what you would see in any of the popular brand deodorants!
I have only tried the regular sticks but they also have sticks for sensitive skin and deodorant jars! Check them out and let me know what you think, especially if you try one of the products that I haven't yet!
